Love your natural hair; Allowing your hair to be chemical free.

Updated: Feb 16

Nowadays, it seems that the "in" thing is to have over processed unnaturally colored, heat treated hair. Even many of us natural ladies over colored, and overheat treated our hair.

I wonder why we feel that even though our hair is natural we still want to chemically treat it? Don't get me wrong I am not against chemicals, even ladies with relaxed hair, if cared for properly, can still have healthy, strong, growing hair. However, the most healthy, strong, growing hair you will ever have will be natural virgin hair. It doesn't get any stronger than that!

Virgin Hair

What is virgin hair you may ask? Well, virgin hair is actually exactly what it sounds like, with a major difference. It's hair that has never been touched by any texture altering chemicals. Such as relaxers, texturizers, and other straighteners, this also includes semi-permanent hair color, permanent hair color, and bleaches. The truth is, semi-permanent hair color, permanent hair color, and hair bleaches also change the structural texture and ph balance of your hair, however, they do it at a slower rate. Yet and still, they are changing the way your hair feels, they are stripping your hair of needed proteins, they are changing the ph balance, overall they are doing more damage than good. Virgin hair is the healthiest hair you will ever have because someone with virgin hair has avoided the damaging processes that chemicals cause. So virgin hair, that is well taken care of will always be strong and more resistant to damage because it hasn't been stripped of what it needs to grow strong.

I understand that hair color, and straightening is fun, it's fun to switch up your look, and I definitely used to love bleach highlights back in the day, but I also noticed the damage it caused my hair not too long after. I'm not saying don't have fun with your hair, of course not. What I'm saying is, if you're looking for a change, look for a change that isn't going to permanently damage what is naturally yours. Love your natural hair, and have fun with it while also protecting it. There are many natural alternatives to colouring your hair other than harmful chemicals. The one that is probably the most fun and effective is coloured hair wax. Coloured Wax is made from natural wax that has been made to sit on top of the hair. You apply to wet hair allow it to dry and it will give you a quick, fun change without any bleach or chemical colours. It comes in many fun colours and when your ready for another change it washes out. The best thing about coloured hair wax is that when you're ready to go back to your natural hair colour, it will be untouched, unchanged, and still a virgin. The wax has no chemicals that will change your hair structure or damage your fabulous hair. For you ladies that love to wear your hair straight every now and then, don't forget to use a heat protectant before you blow-dry to protect your hair from heat exposure. This is important because overheating also changes your hair structure and texture, and can leave hair very damaged.

The most important thing to know is that loving your hair is the hair goal, it's not back length or waist length, it's loving your own hair, the way it grows from your head, and caring for it so it can be the best hair it can be. Yes, we want our hair to grow and be beautiful, and undeniably the best way to have healthy growing hair is to avoid things that damage it. Loving your hair means excepting it for its type, its porosity, its growth rate, and caring for your hair just as it is. All hair is good hair, and all hair deserves the best treatment, and the best way to treat and love your hair, is to let it be untouched. Now, I am not trying to persuade you to be a natural lady, if you still relax your hair, I do hope that one day you will join the natural hair movement, but if not, your hair is still beautiful, and please care for it so it can be healthy. What I am trying to do, is persuade my natural beauties to please love your hair as it is and let it be a virgin.

Last final tips...

Now if you've already coloured and bleached your luscious locks, and you can see the damage it has caused and want to undo it, don't worry. You don't have to do a big chop all over again, you can trim your hair every 3 months until the chemically treated hair is off. It may take a while, depending on how long your hair is, and the last time you chemically treated it. But, as long as you're not continuing to chemically treat your hair and you're deep conditioning it regularly your hair condition will improve as the damaged hair is trimmed off. As always ladies, we here at VM Beauty will be here for all your hair needs as we finish up our own very special hair product line. Trust me you're going to love it! Until next time...
